Nuwara Eliya, Sri LankaNuwara Eliya or 'Little England', overlooked by Mount Pidurutalagala, the highest mountain in Sri Lanka, is about 180km from Colombo
The Horton Plains National Park is not far from Nuwara Eliya, it is Sri Lanka’s highest, most isolated plateau. A haven for many wild animal and bird species. Bridleways and footpaths accross the Horton Plains take you to the 'lovers leap' precipice known as World’s End – a sheer drop of over 1,000m. The return journey passes the scenic Baker Falls. Acres and acres of tea with its lush Camelia green foliage extening for miles across the hillsides. No visit to the Nuwara Eliya hill country would be complete without a visit to one of the open tea estates specialising in growing Orange Pekoe tea, and the opportunity to purchase some of the world’s finest flavoured leaf tea, the famous Ceylon tea.

JeGraNet.com statement - 15 October 2008 - Quote from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office website: "There is a high threat from terrorism in Sri Lanka. Fatal attacks have become more frequent. They have occurred in Colombo and throughout Sri Lanka, including places frequented by expatriate and foreign travellers. Further attacks may occur at any time. There is an increasing risk of British nationals being caught up in an attack". As independent travellers we left Colombo after just 9 days into our planned 6 month stay as a result of a feeling of insecurity, however we are sure that 'package tour' travellers to tourist resorts will probably enjoy a worry free holiday. |
