We
stayed at AAA Accommodation, 49 Lionel Edirisinghe Mawatha,
Colombo 5, Room #4, for a couple of nights when we first arrived in Sri Lanka
(October 2008) at $18.00 around £10.00 or SLR 1,800 per night
for the two of us - including breakfast, for very basic, scruffy accommodation,
with air con and fan and internet access.
The double bed mattress had a fitted cover over it but there were no sheets!
we were given a thick coloured cotton cloth each that went on top of the cover
to sleep on.
Shower / toilet / sink - No hot water and no sink plug - rickety and grimy
throughout.
'Breakfast' consisted of 3 rounds of skinny jam (we think!) sandwiches that
were once shown the spread, between us. We took breakfast on the first floor
open area with ancient, rickety, cane furniture (which managed to rip Graham's
trousers).
We
were given a choice of ordering tea or coffee before we turned in the first night,
but having seen the coffee asked for 'Nescafe' which we did get.
Personally if we had any alternative we wouldn't stop there ever again.
The company is owned by partners Ron Stanley and Cleo Muller who are a modern
Sri Lankan couple with other tourist related businesses or agencies:
Vehicle hire - Rooms / apartments to rent - Bolgoda Lake boat hire - Adventure
park cabanas and house boats - Waterfront property for sale.
Should you wish to stay at this accommodation we recommend you take a good
mosquito spray and repellent and plenty of aloe vera gel, antihistamine cream
or tablets.
We apologise for the repetition of some place or proper names with different
spellings, but there is no definitive spelling translation of these words.
We welcome reviews of any Sri Lanka resorts, hotels or visitor attractions.

JeGraNet.com statement - 15 October 2008 - Quote from the British Foreign
and Commonwealth Office website: "There is a high threat from terrorism in Sri
Lanka. Fatal attacks have become more frequent. They have occurred in Colombo
and throughout Sri Lanka, including places frequented by expatriate and foreign
travellers. Further attacks may occur at any time. There is an increasing risk
of British nationals being caught up in an attack". As independent travellers
we left Colombo after just 9 days into our planned 6 month stay as a result of
a feeling of insecurity, however we are sure that 'package tour' travellers to
tourist resorts will probably enjoy a worry free holiday. |
