Sri Lanka Weather - Forecasts for Colombo including Negombo, Trincomalee and KandyThe Sri Lankan climate is influenced the warmth of the surrounding Indian Ocean as well as its closeness to the mainland Indian subcontinent and all of the weather systems that causes.
In Sri Lanka's coastal areas there is little temperature variation over the year, with average temperatures on the west coast and Colombo between 27C and 30C all year round. Inland Sri Lanka has more of a temperature variation; for example Kandy and the hill country’s temperatures are between 17C and 31C. As you get to higher altitudes the temperatures get cooler; Nuwara Eliya temperatures vary between 14C and 21C. In the mountains the start of the year has the warmest temperatures. The warmest or should we say hottest areas on Sri Lanka are the north and north-east; Trincomalee, on the northeast coast has temperatures that fluctuate between the low to mid 30'sC and low to mid 20'sC. Trinco has seen the hottest recorded temperatures on the island at just below 40C. Rainfall can happen at any time all year round, though there are two main monsoon seasons when it really rains heavily on Sri Lanka – the early 'Southwest monsoon' is usually between May and August and the second, later 'Northeast monsoon' is usually between October and January. Southwest Sri Lanka is generally the rainiest throughout the year. Sri Lanka Weather - Colombo and Negombo

JeGraNet.com statement - 15 October 2008 - Quote from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office website: "There is a high threat from terrorism in Sri Lanka. Fatal attacks have become more frequent. They have occurred in Colombo and throughout Sri Lanka, including places frequented by expatriate and foreign travellers. Further attacks may occur at any time. There is an increasing risk of British nationals being caught up in an attack". As independent travellers we left Colombo after just 9 days into our planned 6 month stay as a result of a feeling of insecurity, however we are sure that 'package tour' travellers to tourist resorts will probably enjoy a worry free holiday. |
